Pinkard Attains LEED AP Milestone/A&P Marks 3 Million Man Hours, No Lost-Time Accidents/Local Firms Raise Money for Charities

Pinkard Construction Attains LEED AP Milestone

Lakewood’s Pinkard Construction Co. recently announced that its entire project management and preconstruction/estimating staff has attained LEED professional accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council.

As a member of the USGBC, Pinkard committed to have every project manager and preconstruction/estimating staff member become a LEED-accredited professional. Last month, the firm exceeded its goal.

The firm has 25 LEED APs, including the entire preconstruction and estimating department, every project manager, six project engineers, the field operations manager, several field personnel and the business development team.

Pinkard is currently constructing two projects pursuing LEED-Gold certification: the $28-million Central Platte Campus for the city and county of Denver, and the $31-million Academic Instruction Building for Colorado State University.

Recently completed LEED-Gold-certified projects include the city of Fort Collins’ Northside Aztlan Community Center and CU-Boulder’s $32.9-million Koebel Building.


RNL Opens Office in Abu Dhabi

Denver-based RNL recently opened an office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The Abu Dhabi location is the firm’s fourth office, adding to its headquarters in Denver and offices in Los Angeles and Phoenix.

RNL, the master planner of the Burj Dubai development where the world’s tallest building is currently under construction, is working on a number of projects in the United Arab Emirates, including the Forest of Seih Sdeirah master plan, interior design for a 300-room hotel in Sharjah and design of a 145-room extension to the Al Raha Beach Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

RNL has also planned and designed projects in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Tunisia and Djibouti. McKelvey will be joining two other RNL employees who are already living and working in the region.


A&P Passes Three Million Man Hours Without a Lost-Time Accident

Aurora’s Adolfson & Peterson Construction surpassed a major safety milestone in the construction industry: three million man-hours worked with no lost-time accidents.

This accomplishment is part of the firm’s company-wide mission to reach five million hours without a lost-time accident.

The company achieved its safety milestone with the combined efforts of over 670 employees working on numerous projects nationwide.

In addition, A&P recently received the National Safety Merit Award at the ABC National Safety Excellence and National Safety Merit Awards, which recognizes companies whose safety performance and programs are judged to be exemplary by the ABC National Environment, Health & Safety Committee and companies who exhibit a continued commitment to jobsite safety.


Mortenson Raises Money for Children’s Diabetes Foundation

Mortenson Construction, with offices in Denver and Colorado Springs, joined with its business partners for the third year in a row to raise $10,000 for the Children’s Diabetes Foundation at Denver.

This year’s fundraising effort came during the company’s golf tournament at Fox Hollow Golf Course in Lakewood, which was attended by more than 175 people.

The Children’s Diabetes Foundation at Denver’s mission is to raise funds to support the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes at Children’s Hospital on the Anschutz Campus in Aurora. The nonprofit is solely dedicated to the support of research, educational programs and clinical care for childhood diabetes.

The Champion sponsor of the tournament was Sturgeon Electric. Other major sponsors included: Kenny Electric, Duro Electric, Encore Electric, RK Mechanical, US Engineering, Harmon, LPR Construction, Dynalectric, Dalco, Universal Forest Products, Basalite Concrete Products, United Rentals, KL&A, BCER Engineering, MTech, and Mercury LDO Reprographics.


URS Raises Money for Charity

URS Corp. raised more than $4,200 for various charities during its recent silent auction.

URS Corp., a full-service architectural, engineering and consulting firm located in the Denver Tech Center, recently held a silent auction through its Employee Volunteer Program, raising more than $4,200 for the Alzheimer’s Association, Brent’s Place, the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and The Children’s Hospital.

Both the URS Division and the Washington Division of the firm participated. In a gesture to support URS, its largest tenant at 8181 East Tufts Avenue, building manager Westcore Properties contributed additional funds to be allocated equally among the five recipients.

URS employees, friends and family donated more than 100 auction items that ranged from weekend mountain getaways to sporting tickets and original artwork.


IronPlanet Reports Record Sales in Second Quarter

IronPlanet, an online auction company for used construction and agricultural equipment, posted record sales in second quarter 2009, with gross auction sales of $120 million—an increase of 31% over the second quarter of 2008.

This year’s second quarter represents a 31% growth over the first quarter of 2009. The company’s year-to-date performance of $211 million is a 25% increase over the same period in 2008.

In the second quarter, IronPlanet conducted 20 auctions across North America, Europe and Australia. IronPlanet sold more than 8,300 lots in the second quarter — up 85% over the same period in 2008. In addition, 53% of the items sold in IronPlanet North American auctions had bid participation from buyers outside of the United States through its broad global buyer reach.
