Lovins Named Honorary AIA/CEFPI Lauds Kinsey/Martin Martin Promotes 20

Rocky Mountain Institute co-founder Amory Lovins was awarded one of seven nonarchitects across the nation bestowed this year the title of Honorary AIA from the American Institute of Architects.

Amory Lovins, co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Institute, was awarded the title of Honorary AIA by the American Institute of Architects.

Lovins was recognized for his three decades of work on the theme of efficient, appropriately scaled, renewable energy use. He has led or been a key participant in more than 100 super-efficient design efforts, including his owner-built home office in Snowmass. After 22 years, it still ranks among the world’s most efficient and highly integrated buildings.

Richard Ellis joined Baker Concrete Construction Inc. as estimator and marketing manager for the firm’s Rocky Mountain operations office in Aurora. Before that, he was an estimator for a San Francisco Bay-area concrete subcontractor.


Loris and Associates Inc. in Lafayette added two new people to its staff—Mark Bilby and Leng Xiong.

Bilby, an engineering intern, is a project engineer assigned to the firm’s transportation structural design team. Xiong is a CAD drafter and designer.

James Swanson, PE, principal and executive vice president of Bucher, Willis & Ratliff Corp., retired after a 31-year career with the company. His BWR career began in 1975 in Salina, Kan. He founded the Colorado office in 1987.


Shane Ferguson, PE, joined Drexel, Barrell & Co. as a project manager in the firm’s Colorado Springs regional office. He specializes in transportation engineering.


Dan Snipes, quality assurance manager for Aurora-based BonaKemi USA, earned the certified manager of quality and organizational excellence designation from the American Society for Quality.


Industry veterans Al Snyder and Michael Smilinich joined Taylor Kohrs LLC as superintendents while Chris Fermanian joined the company as a project engineer.

Scott Peterson and Sherry Larkin joined the company’s business development team.

Brandon Barker transferred to Kumar & Associates Inc.’s office in Colorado Springs, where he now manages the construction materials testing department.


Steve Maxson, PE, LEED AP, of Shaffer Baucom Engineering & Consulting, passed the professional engineer exam.

Jason Ridl was named a designer with the firm’s electrical design team.

Joseph McClellan Jr. joined CTL/Thompson as a project engineer for the Colorado structural engineering division in Fort Collins.


Three new professionals—Scott Burger, senior transportation engineer, Darin Freeman, structural engineer, and Diana Askew, project manager—were hired at David Evans and Associates Inc. in Denver.

Jennifer Wood, bridge engineer, transferred from DEA’s office in Salem, Ore. 

Jack Peterson was named manager of the 73-person structural department at Martin/Martin Consulting Engineers.

The firm also made the following promotions at its Lakewood office: Eileen McEnroe, PE, and Brian Tinkey, PE, senior investigative engineers; Kelly Knowles, PE, Brent Leu, PE, and Mark Upton, PE, senior professional engineers; Peter Buckley, PE and Joseph Rausch, PE, project engineers; Jeffrey Goodell, Kyle Messmer, Kristine Stroll, Andrew Emmons, Maegan Stein and Greg Parent, Engineer II; Markos Atamo, Engineer I; Dustin Behm, Lea Schaffer and Roberto Silvas, CAD technicians; Larry Sager, CAD II; Estrella Bernal, survey technician; and Linda Kelly, marketing coordinator.

Kris Hansen was named electrical power generation power systems sales representative at Wagner Equipment Co., the Caterpillar dealer for Colorado, New Mexico, and far west Texas.

Tim Lewis was appointed to the newly created position of CRM manager.

Rob Ekstrom, a member of the Durrant team since 1998, completed the architect registration examination.


Ignacio Correa-Ortiz, AIA, AICP, and Donna Rubinoff, PhD, joined OZ Architecture.

Correa-Ortiz is a senior urban designer who relocated from Tampa, where he designed the city’s historic streetcar terminal facility. He has also worked at Skidmore, Owings & Merrill in Chicago and on the Healthy Mountains Communities Initiative in Aspen.

Rubinoff is project facilitator with 30 years of experience, including extensive research in sustainable development, cultural geography, gender and geography.

Peter Cudlip, a principal for 10 years at Alberta Development Partners LLC, left the company to launch his own, Pointe Properties LLC.


Peggy Kinsey, AIA, a staff architect at SlaterPaull Architects in Denver, was named Planner of the Year by the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Council of Educational Facility Planners International.


Chet Campbell, Steve Anderson, Einer Peterson and Tim Campbell were promoted to senior superintendents at Fransen Pittman General Contractors.


Ruth Brajevich was promoted to chief marketing officer at Ware Malcomb.


Pat Smith, senior project manager; and Josh Etter, project manager trainee; joined JE Dunn Construction in Denver.


Anderson Mason Dale Architects named Paul Haack, AIA, president of the firm, while Joey Carrasquillo, AIA, LEED AP, was promoted to principal and Gerardo Salinas, AIA, LEED AP, and Katie Kish-Coffin, MS, were made associates.


Bart dela Cruz, PE, joined Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. as a transportation project engineer in the firm’s Denver office.


Nuszer Kopatz in Denver has launched an architecture studio, led by Patrick Berrend, Associate AIA, principal. Greg Lockridge, AIA, LEED AP, has also joined the studio as an associate.

Kelley Savage, RLA, ASLA, was hired as a senior associate in the firm’s landscape architecture studio.

Jennifer Johnson, associate and vice president of Carter & Burgess Inc., received LEED professional accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council. She leads the building programs unit for the Denver office.


Guy Gabrielli, Jeffrey Don and Heather Rhoads joined White Construction Group. Gabrielli and Don are project superintendents; Rhoads is a project administrator.


Chris Geddes and Chris Sutterfield were named senior associates at studioINSITE in Denver.


Gensler in Denver promoted Ala Hason to principal, Brad VanArsdale, AIA, LEED AP, to senior associate and Rohini Saksena, LEED AP, CDT, and Jeff Hall, LEED AP, NCARB, to associates.


Jen Burianek and Zoey Chance joined Ambient Energy as sustainable design specialists.
