Metro District’s Hite to Retire/OZ Adds Five to Its Staff/CDOT Names Allen Region 3 Transportation Director

After nearly four decades of service, Robert Hite will retire at the end of the year as district manager of the Metro Wastewater Reclamation District.

Robert Hite, who has served Metro Wastewater Reclamation District for nearly four decades, will retire at the end of the year as district manager.

Hite served on the Metro District’s board of directors as a representative of Denver for 17 years before being appointed district manager in 1988. His board service included three terms as chairman.

Under Hite’s leadership, the Metro District has achieved national and international recognition as one of the top wastewater utilities in the United States. It has won multiple awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Association of Clean Water Agencies, Water Environment Federation, American Public Works Association and the Rocky Mountain Water Environment Association.

Kenneth Robbins, CCCA, was named Denver office manager at ASCG Inc. Robbins joined ASCG in 1990 and since 1994 has served as manager of the firm’s office in Barrow, Alaska. He was appointed senior vice president in 1996.


Three staff members at MOA Architecture in Denver received accreditation through the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program. They are design principal Jack Mousseau, AIA, CEFPI, LEED AP; principal Jere Eggleston, AIA, LEED AP; and job captain Brian Konczak, LEED AP.


John West, 2006 president of Colorado Contractors Association, was named project manager of the RTD West Corridor construction project for Denver Transit Inc., a Herzog Contracting/Stacy Witbeck Joint Venture.


Derek Cunz, director of project development for M.A. Mortenson Co. in Denver; Jon Peterka, vice president of Cermak Peterka Petersen Inc. in Fort Collins; and Bill Murphy, a project manager at Kiewit Corp.; were named among the “Top 25 Newsmakers of 2006” in the April 2 issue of Engineering News-Record.


Five employees of Gerald H. Phipps Inc. in Denver received certification through the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program—John Gibbs, marketing manager; and Mark Hawk, Jason Foisset, Mike Robinson and Todd Ruff, project estimators.


Jody Wright returned to Lockton Companies LLC in Denver as a senior vice president.

He was a partner at Lockton before leaving in 2005 to serve as construction practice leader and executive vice president for Willis of Colorado.


Mathew Selders, PLS, was promoted to assistant department head of the land surveying department at Drexel, Barrell & Co. in Boulder.


OZ Architecture principal Rick Petersen, AIA, was appointed a charter member of Colorado State University’s Design Review Committee, which reviews all capital projects to ensure they conform to newly-adopted design guidelines for the university’s various Fort Collins campuses.

OZ also added five people—project architects Darrin Jensen; Tim Ross, LEED AP; Erik Okland, AIA; and Edward Parcell, AIA; and quality control manager David Snelson, AIA.

Thomas Bakane, PE, joined Shaffer Baucom Engineering & Consulting as a mechanical engineer.


Weldon Allen, a 32-year employee of the Colorado Department of Highways and Colorado Department of Transportation, was been appointed transportation director for CDOT Region 3, which covers 12 counties and portions of two others in western, northwestern, north central, central and southwestern Colorado.


Three employees of Nunn Construction Inc. in Colorado Springs earned LEED accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council. They are Eric Bivens, estimator; and Will Peterson and Nate Yahn, project engineers.


The Weitz Co. in Denver has expanded its special projects group with the addition of Doug Flemmer.


Stephen Holst, PE, a project engineer; and Jessica Terry, EIT, an engineer-drafter; joined Studio NYL Structural Engineers in Boulder.


Rick Coldsnow, PE, joined the Denver office of Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. as a senior professional engineer in the municipal group.


Four new professionals joined JVA Inc. in Boulder. They are Matt Oscamou, project engineer; Brett Robinson, senior project engineer; John Archuleta, drafter; and Carla Zessin, administrative assistant.


Opus Northwest LLC promoted four of the staffers in its Denver office–Dave Einfeldt and JR Reynolds to directors of construction, Steve Rogers to senior project manager and Dan Johnson to project manager.


Jim MacKinnon, manager of preconstruction services for Saunders Construction Inc., was unanimously voted as president of the Tilt-Up Concrete Association for 2009. He will serve as the TCA’s vice president starting next January.


Sharon Bratton was promoted to utility operations coordinator for the line operations department at Riviera Electric, while superintendent Jason Miller was named a project detailer.


The Littleton-based company also made the following hires: Ed Castor, service manager; Mickey Gardner, human resources director; Laura DeNileon, service coordinator; Jennifer Cribbs, administrative assistant; Bart Slatton, controller; and Eric Parker, estimator.


Martin/Martin Inc. in Lakewood expanded its services to include traffic engineering with the hiring of two new traffic engineers–associate Aaron Heumann, PE, PTOE; and Craig MacPhee, PE, a project engineer.


Craig Bouck was named CEO and president of Barker Rinker Seacat Architecture while design veteran Marcia Hocevar has joined the Denver-based firm as principal of the interiors division.

Former CEO Bruce Flynn will focus his efforts in the municipal, library and recreation markets and lead the firm’s sustainable design mission.

Other recent BRSA hires include Caroline Seeberger, AIA, LEED, AP, as project manager; Matt Svoboda, job captain; Scott Randall, CPA; and Terra Lenihan, resources manager.

Daniel Murphy was promoted to chief operating officer for Continuum Partners LLC. In this role, he will oversee all of the company’s day-to-day operations and be responsible for executive oversight during implementation phases of all projects.


Aberdeen Construction Inc. in Westminster has two new employees–David Ray, superintendent; and Mark Brine, assistant project manager.


Jennifer Cordes, AIA, was promoted to senior associate at SlaterPaull Architects in Denver, while three other staff members–Kara Aylesworth, AIA; Gwen Gilley, AIA, LEED AP; and Melanie Short, AIA, LEED AP–were named associates.


Mathew Hirschbeck returned to Richard P. Arber Associates as project engineer, while D. Ryan Walsh has joined the Lakewood firm as a design engineer.
