Vince Van Heukelem recently
began his new position as the CEO of Colorado Hardscapes Inc.
Vince was welcomed at a party in his honor on March 31. His
father, Calvin Van Heukelem, passed the title to his son after
holding it himself since Colorado Hardscapes' incorporation
in 1978.
Wendell Van Heukelem, Calvin's
father, began the company in 1947 with one truck servicing
the Denver Metro area. Calvin worked with his father and eventually
took over Van Heukelem Concrete, as it was then called.
Calvin expanded the company into Colorado's leading concrete
contractor with seven divisions of concrete, including architectural
concrete paving, premium floors, decorative walls and custom
rock as well as a full-service standard concrete division.
Under Calvin's direction, Colorado Hardscapes now boasts Colorado's
only Concrete Design Center at 8085 E. Harvard Ave. in Denver.
Calvin Van Heukelem will retain ownership of Colorado Hardscapes
and remains chairman of the board for now. His role is still
being determined by the needs of Colorado Hardscapes.
Vince Van Heukelem grew up in the business, has studied civil
engineering and is a licensed professional engineer.

John Frey has joined Kwal Paint Co. as its new architectural
representative. He is responsible for working with architects throughout
Colorado in writing paint specifications and other support services.
Frey has experience working with architects, suppliers and contractors
from his previous position with the Dodge Division of McGraw-Hill Construction,
where he worked for 14 years.
Kwal Paint, owned by Professional Paint Inc., has been a leading supplier
of commercial and residential coatings for more than 50 years. Frey works
out of the Denver factory at 3900 Joliet St. and can be reached at 303-307-2123.

HWS has added Ben Tuthill to its staff. Tuthill is providing
technical assistance on asbestos and other environmental projects. He
has a BS in environmental science from the University of Vermont.

J.E. Dunn Construction has announced that Matt Vineyard has received
his Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design professional accreditation.
Vineyard has been a project manager with the company for four years in
Colorado Springs.
LEED-accredited professionals are experienced building industry practitioners
with knowledge of integrated design. The accreditation program recognizes
expertise in green building and LEED to help meet the growing demand in
the industry. Vineyard's achievement gives J.E. Dunn additional flexibility
to offer its clients certified environmentally sound services. There are
currently six LEED accredited professionals in the company.
The LEED Green Building Rating System is a consensus-based national standard
for developing high-performance buildings. LEED provides a complete framework
for assessing building performance by emphasizing state-of-the-art strategies
for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials
selection and indoor environmental quality. A LEED Green Building provides
reduced energy consumption and protection of ecosystems and occupant health.

Kirkham Michael Consulting Engineers has hired William Archdeacon,
PE, PLS, to manage its land development division in Colorado.
Archdeacon has 30 years of design experience in the residential, commercial
and industrial development markets. He earned his bachelor's degree at
the University of Dayton in Ohio.
Archdeacon currently serves as chair of the American Society of Civil
Engineers' Urban Drainage Standards Committee.

Ware Malcomb has announced that Kerri Wilson has been promoted
from director of finance and administration to chief financial officer.
Wilson has been with the firm for more than 10 years and has made a significant
contribution to the growth and evolution of the company, which currently
has over 100 employees and five offices. Wilson has substantial experience
in business management, finance, operations, administration and marketing.
As CFO, Wilson will help provide executive oversight, vision and support
for the accounting, finance, human resources and administration departments
in the firm. She will also provide support to the president and CEO in
the financial, planning and strategic direction of the firm.

HDR Engineering Inc. has announced the promotion of Mary Kay Provaznik
to water and wastewater section manager.
Provaznik, who has nearly a decade of experience in the engineering industry,
has been a project manager and engineer for both local and national projects.
Her areas of expertise include water and wastewater master planning, water
supply planning, risk assessment, hydraulic engineering, water resources
and modeling.
Since joining HDR in 1997, Provaznik has worked on such high-profile projects
as the Rio Grande Decision Support System and the Newport News Regional
Water Supply Assessment.
Locally, she has provided engineering services to clients such as the
City of Westminster, Colorado Springs Utilities, Eagle River Water and
Sanitation District, City of Aurora and Denver International Airport.
In her role as section manager, Provaznik will be responsible for the
day-to-day management of 21 engineering professionals and support staff,
as well as quality control of all projects and overall strategic direction
for the group.
She is currently a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers,
American Water Works Association, American Water Resources Association
and the Colorado Association of Flood Plain Managers.

Quality Electric Inc. has announced that company President and CEO Rex
Wiederspahn has been re-appointed to the Westminster City Council
Planning Commission. Wiederspahn will help review plans for growth and
new development in the city. It is a two-year term, expiring December
2004.

Structural Engineer Steve Dominic, PE, and Sr. Civil Structural
Engineer Ajay Goyal, PE, are two recent additions to URS Corp.'s
Denver office. Dominic and Goyal will be key members of the dams team
within the geo/civil engineering group.
Dominic's experience is in analysis and design of hydraulic structures.
His areas of expertise include concrete dam static and dynamic stability
analysis, finite element analysis, design and preparation of drawings
and cost estimates at conceptual and final design levels.
His initial focus with URS involves the structural design of the U.S.
Fish & Wildlife Service's Orangeburg Dam in South Carolina.
Goyal specializes in analysis and design of structures in commercial,
industrial, municipal, mining, petrochemical and water resources. His
work has involved conducting frame and finite element analysis of complex
structures, analysis and design of heavy steel and concrete structures,
foundations, retaining walls, conveyor belts, hydraulic structures and
buildings.
Currently, Goyal is designing a new intake tower and a labyrinth weir
for the spillway at Elkhead Reservoir for the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
He is also conducting a stability analysis of Rush Dam for the U.S. Fish
& Wildlife Service in Oklahoma. In addition, Goyal is assisting the
URS facilities group with a pond liner design at Lowry and a fleet maintenance
facility design for La Plata County.

Klipp Colussy Jenks DuBois Architects has announced the promotion of
Keat Tan to associate principal.
In addition to his new position, Tan is the director of design at KCJD.
Tan graduated from Syracuse University with a bachelor's of architecture
degree in 1981. He joined the firm in 2002 after working in Asia and New
York City for more than 20 years for firms including Michael Graves &
Associates in Princeton, N.J.
He brings a portfolio of international design work to the firm, with experience
in large-scale, mixed-use urban projects and specializing in higher education
facilities, cultural arts centers, libraries, corporate headquarters and
interior design. His award-winning designs have been featured in Interior
Design Magazine and he has been honored with the 2001 Award of Excellence
for Interior Architectural Design for IsBank in Istanbul, Turkey.
Since joining KCJD, Keat has acted as lead designer for a variety of projects,
including the Colorado Convention Center Hotel, The Shops at Dove Valley,
Denver School of Science and Technology, Aspen Country Day School and
Colorado Academy's Chowdry Middle School.

Farnsworth Group Inc. has announced the addition of Lance A. Stewart,
PE, CEM, to its Denver office.
Stewart is an electrical engineer with 25 years of experience in design
and construction of a broad range of facilities. He is a registered professional
engineer in 18 states and is also a certified energy manager. Stewart
will be an engineering manager in the facilities, science and technology
group.

The Colorado Springs office of Farris Engineering Inc. has announced
the appointment of Malisa L. Martinez as director of marketing.
Martinez has more than six years of experience in the construction industry
with an emphasis on marketing.

Reese Engineering, an architectural engineering and lighting design
firm, has announced the recent accomplishment of Mark J. Harrington
and Mark D. Layfield in attaining the status of professional engineer.
Harrington is a plumbing systems and HVAC engineer and has been with Reese
Engineering for more than two years.
Layfield is an electrical engineer and brings strong lighting design expertise
to the firm. Further, Layfield was recently promoted to associate, which
recognizes his commitment to the overall company mission.

Martin/Martin Inc. Consulting Engineers has announced that Jack E.
Petersen, PE, a principal of the firm, has passed the State of Utah
professional engineers exam.
Petersen has been a structural engineer with Martin/Martin for 19 years
and in addition to his Utah professional engineering license, he is also
a registered professional engineer in Colorado and North Carolina.
Petersen currently leads the firm's special projects group, a team of
professionals who focus on performing structural engineering services
on functional, engineering-driven projects. Team members are trained to
apply a multi-disciplinary approach to project management design and coordination.
Martin/Martin's special projects group provides custom design-build steel
frames and steel connection design on a national basis.

Sink Combs Dethlefs has announced the promotion of Christopher Kastelic
to principal of the firm. Kastelic has built a strong reputation with
Sink Combs Dethlefs as an outstanding designer and leader. He joined the
firm in 1994.
Since joining Sink Combs Dethlefs, Kastelic has worked on the award-winning
Fort Lewis College Student Life Center, the Fort Lupton Recreation Center
and Study, the Green Valley Ranch Recreation Center, the Charles Whitlock
Recreation Center in Lakewood and the newly renovated Rainbow Ballroom,
which now serves as the firm headquarters at 475 Lincoln St. in Denver.

Land Architects Inc. recently hired Brent Ruple as a designer.
Ruple, a recent graduate of the University of Arkansas, will work closely
with team leaders on detail design and landscape architecture projects.
He is currently working on detail design for Lutheran High School of the
Rockies and landscape architecture for the Greater Brighton Fire District.

CTC-Geotek Inc., a consulting geotechnical engineering and construction
materials testing company, has named Robert Scavuzzo, PE, president
of the firm.
Scavuzzo is a registered professional engineer in Colorado and Wyoming.
He has been in the geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing
and quality assurance fields for 20 years and has presented and published
papers dealing with geotechnical laboratory and field testing, stone cladding
anchorage systems, concrete behavior, soil-cement construction control
and earthquake modeling using a geotechnical centrifuge.
Scavuzzo is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, American
Society of Testing and Materials, American Concrete Institute, Colorado
Association of Geotechnical Engineers and the Jefferson County Engineering
Advisory Board.

Redwine-Reizian Inc. has announced the promotion of John Brunner
to associate.
Brunner has been with the firm since 1996 and has acted as the senior
project engineer on several of the company's larger projects. He has also
been instrumental in the development of the firm's Intranet, which links
users to a detailed library of engineering and CAD software, plus Web-based
resources.

The RMH Group has announced that Mechanical Engineer Tom Macleod,
PE, recently passed the LEEDTM accreditation examination. LEED, Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design, is the U.S. Green Building Council's
rating system for certifying high-performance, sustainable buildings.
RMH is currently providing LEED consulting and certification services,
in addition to design, for the Byron Rogers U.S. Courthouse renovation
in Denver, the Bureau of Land Management's Rawlins field office in Wyoming,
and an environmental and water quality laboratory in Colorado Springs.
The Byron Rogers renovation is one of 50 projects nationwide to test the
prototype "LEED for Existing Buildings" program. Once certified,
the Rawlins field office will be the first LEED Gold building in Wyoming
and the first BLM Gold-rated facility. RMH is using the Labs21 Environmental
Performance Criteria, which will soon be adapted as the LEED for Laboratories
Application Guide, for the Colorado Springs laboratory.
RMH is also providing LEED consulting and certification services for the
new U.S. District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.

Robert "Bob" Mattucci recently joined Kiewit Construction
Co. as area president of building operations in the Rocky Mountain region
for Kiewit's midwest building district.
A noted 25-year construction veteran in the Denver area, Mattucci has
been instrumental in the construction of many Colorado projects such as
the Denver West Village and Main Street Station Resort in Breckenridge.
Mattucci's responsibilities are to oversee all day-to-day activities of
commercial building and business development.
Mattucci brings significant experience in executive management in Colorado
to Kiewit. This experience in the building industry includes positions
in manufacturing, heavy highway, mining and commercial construction.
During his career, he has been involved in nearly $1 billion of projects
throughout Colorado for clients such as The City and County of Denver,
United Airlines, Safeway, East West Partners and others.
Mattucci is currently treasurer of the Jefferson Economic Council and
represents JEC as a member of the Transit Alliance Action Fund. Additionally,
he is a member of the Board of Governors of the Southeast Business Partnership.
Mattucci holds an MBA from the University of Denver and is a member of
its Burns Counselor Board. Before joining Kiewit, Mattucci was executive
vice president of the Colorado division of Skanska USA Building.

Julia R. Crawmer, a 15-year veteran of
the real estate industry, has been named director of real
estate for Hall-Irwin Corp., a Greeley-based full-service
real estate development and construction company.
As Hall-Irwin's top real estate broker, Crawmer will represent
Hall-Irwin and its related entities in the sale of platted
and approved residential lots, residential and commercial
land, and the sale and leasing of commercial/industrial real
estate.
Before joining Hall-Irwin, Crawmer was an associate broker
for McWhinney Enterprises, where she was responsible for the
marketing, selling and leasing of commercial and investment
real estate, land and water, within McWhinney development
communities.
Hall-Irwin is developing several master-planned communities
in Weld County, including Centennial Crossing in Milliken,
Greenspire in Windsor, Booth Farm in Firestone and Berryman
Farm in Kersey.
