Denver Architect Remembered/Starker Appointed/Norton
Elected
The Denver architectural community recently lost one of
its rising stars, Jason Pettigrew,
29, who died July 25 in a climbing accident in the Sangre
de Cristo Mountains of southern Colorado.
Pettigrew - who was nearing the completion of his licensure
- worked for SlaterPaull Architecture and was an active associate
member of the American Institute of Architects Colorado chapter.
An experienced climber, he had climbed 49 of the state's
54 Fourteeners and was attempting to climb the remaining five
before his 30th birthday on Aug. 9.
"Jason touched the lives of many individuals, both within
our professional organization, as well as outside of it,"
AIA Colorado President Chris Green said. "[He] inspired
our organization through his leadership. His approach, attitude
and leadership values will be deeply missed."
Pettigrew held a number of significant leadership positions
within AIA. He was the first associate director for the Western
Mountain Region Board, a member of the 2003 AIA Colorado Board
of Directors and had recently served as chair of the fifth
annual Young Architects Awards Gala.
Pettigrew's leadership was recognized nationally by his firm
and the 2004 AIA Colorado Board of Directors, which nominated
him for the AIA Associate Member of the Year award, given
annually at the National Convention of the American Institute
of Architects.
"This was a guy who was the best of our future,"
AIA National Vice President R.K. Stewart said.
AIA Colorado Executive Director Sonia Riggs agreed. "Jason
was a genuine, passionate and inspirational individual,"
she said. "He will be missed by our staff and all of
our members."
