Ambient Energy Hires Two Sustainable Design Specialists/CDOT Names New Region One Superintendent

Ambient Energy, a Denver-based, women-owned firm focused on energy and environmental building performance, recently hired two sustainable design specialists. Avinash Guatam and Laura D’Ardenne will facilitate sustainable design charrettes, provide design and LEED coordination, research new sustainable methods and materials and ensure that clients’ green goals are achieved.


Michael DeLong has been named the new maintenance superintendent for the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Region One, encompassing most of central Colorado, including Interstate 70 between Vail and the Kansas state line. DeLong is a 25-year CDOT employee and replaces the recently retired Fred Schulz.

Before becoming superintendent in Region One, DeLong was CDOT’s Section Seven, Region Five Superintendent (south-central Colorado/San Luis Valley area) for more than four years. DeLong also has held numerous other maintenance positions at CDOT, including deputy superintendent in Region Three (northwest Colorado) and area foreman in Region One.


Kevin Wellington, a seven-year sales executive at Sears Trostel Lumber & Millwork, recently was named the company’s sales manager.

In his new role, Wellington will oversee a sales team located in Fort Collins, Colorado Springs and the mountain communities that promotes the company’s stock and custom trim moldings, hardwood and softwood lumber and woodworking tools.


Jack Brannigan has recently joined HomeSphere, a provider of technology-leveraged supply chain services to the homebuilding and remodeling industry, as senior vice president of business development. In this role, he will direct HomeSphere’s expansion efforts into the residential construction sector to include consumers and home improvement contractors.


Jeffrey Frisina recently joined the Lakewood office of Weston Solutions Inc., a leading environmental consulting, federal contracting and sustainable development firm as construction operations manager of the Rocky Mountain region.

Frisina will be responsible for providing direction, leadership and general oversight to the firm’s real estate development/redevelopment division and construction business unit. He has a bachelor’s degree in business from Northern Arizona University and is a LEED-accredited professional.


RK Mechanical Inc. of Denver recently promoted the following people:

Marc Paolicelli to vice president of corporate business development. Paolicelli is responsible for overseeing the business development, marketing and preconstruction management groups for RK Mechanical, RK Global and RK Specialties, as well as pursuing new ventures.

Robert Marceau to division manager of RK Global, the international division of RK Mechanical Inc. Marceau has been in operations management for RK Mechanical for the past 12 years. He has just completed mechanical construction of the new U.S. Embassy in Berlin.

Jim Chapman has joined the RK team as division manager of RK Specialties, a division of RK Mechanical that provides miscellaneous metals and structural steel modifications. Chapman comes to RKMI from the Kiewit Building Group, where he was the estimating manager. He has more than 30 years experience within the construction industry.

Bill Skidmore has been promoted to manager of preconstruction. Skidmore is responsible for managing of the preconstruction efforts at RK Mechanical Inc. He has over 35 years experience in the construction industry.

Mark Rawlings has been promoted to construction executive. Rawlings has more than 20 years of construction experience. He has been involved in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Residences in downtown Denver, Northern Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, Denver International Airport Boiler and Chiller Replacements, Buckley Air Force Base Civil Engineering Complex and the Four Seasons Hotel and Residences.


HomeAid Colorado has named Peter Simons its 2009 president of the board of directors. He is currently the president of Meyers Builder Data, a national market data provider for the homebuilding industry.

As president, Simons’ role is to lead the board of directors, which oversees the fiscal and legal operations of HomeAid Colorado. He is also responsible for helping to recruit other members of the building community to participate in the nonprofit’s efforts to house homeless families and individuals.

Joining Simons on the board of directors are seven new members: Kathi Hansen from the Colorado Association of Home Builders; Noel Lane, president of Lane III Group and founding president of HomeAid Colorado; Rich Larson, vice president of Avuda Management Corp.; Rob Nanfelt, executive vice president of CAHB; Anne Olson, president/owner of Olson Architecture; Steve Prokopiak of Centre Communities; and Jean Adams Warren, president of Perspectives Interiors.

Tom Hall has joined the Safety Department at Murphy Co. of Denver. Hall’s experience includes 19 years at Amoco Production Co. He is a graduate from the University of Phoenix with a degree in business management.

Hall has 10 years experience in HVAC and 10 years in safety. He will facilitate the firm’s newly implemented Behavior-Based Safety process.
