Top Projects - Public Projects


1. Aurora Municipal Center
Location: Aurora
Cost: $70 million
General Contractor: The Weitz Company

Start Date: September 2001
Completion Date: February 2003
The design-build project consisted of a five-story, 295,000-sq-ft city hall that consolidated 28 separate departments from various buildings throughout the city. The interior of the building includes a TV broadcast studio, cafe, council chambers and a 8,000-sq-ft lobby. Attached to the building is a 780-car parking garage and there are also 550 surface parking spaces.
All of the existing utilities were resized and relocated to accommodate the new building and garage. a great lawn adorned with public art finish surround the building and tie together the other three buildings on the site. The city has also elected to build a 6.5-acre xeriscape demonstration garden on the southwest corner of the site to help educate the citizens of Aurora about options for alternate planting and landscaping methods to help deal with the drought.

2. Larimer County Fairgrounds

Start Date: April 2002
Completion Date: October 2003
This is a 240,000-acre, 500,000-sq-ft, multi-phased project. Phase One includes 376,000 sq ft in five buildings, the largest being the 162,000-sq-ft events center, future home of the Colorado Eagles CHL expansion team.

3. Denver Federal Center Renovation, GSA Building #25
Location: Denver

Completion Date: July 2003
Construction requirements include: demolition of existing interior and exterior elements; phased asbestos abatement; lead and other remediation; minor excavation and grading; landscaping and irrigation; site furnishings; concrete replacement; new concrete; masonry; structural steel and miscellaneous metals; rough and finish carpentry; millwork; roofing and sheet metal; doors-frames-hardware; glass and glazing; window replacement; metal framing and drywall; interior finishes; casework; lab equipment; specialties and furnishings; elevators.

4. Larimer County Courthouse Office Building
Location: Fort Collins
Cost: $22.1 million
General Contractor: Merit Electric; Western States Mechanical
Architect: Fentress Bradburn Architects
Start Date: February 2002
Completion Date: August 2003
The Larimer County Courthouse Office is a new four-story, 124,000-sq-ft building housing Larimer County's Assessor, Board of County Commissioners, County Clerk, Information Management Services, Natural Resources, Planning and Building, Public Works, Treasurer and Veteran Services departments. The new building is located on the same site as the previous County Courthouse. The Hensel Phelps/Fentress Bradburn Architects design-build team was selected through 'Best Value' procurement for the design solution that maximizes efficiency and program functionality.

5. SBIRS Mission Control Backup Facility

6. Logan County Justice Center
Location: Sterling

98,000-sq-ft facility, including courtrooms, probation offices, coroner, sheriff's administration, 108-bed detention and a garage on 16.9 acre site.

7. African American Research Library
Location: Denver
Cost: $9 million

Start Date: February 2002
Completion Date: April 2003
This 38,000-sq-ft, three-story structure houses a branch library for the Five Points neighborhood, plus the African American History Research facility.

8. Weld County North Jail Complex Expansion
Location: Greeley
Cost: $6.3 million
General Contractor: Roche Constructors Inc
Architect: Bley Associates
Start Date: July 2002
Completion Date: October 2003
The two-story project is a consists of a 51,500-sq-ft addition to the existing 79,530-sq-ft facility. The addition will house 30 minimum security cells, 31 medium security cells, 19 maximum security cells, and a juvenile segregation area. It will house up to 239 inmates.

9. Parker Joint Service Facility
Location: Parker
Cost: $2.9 million
General Contractor: MW Golden Constructors
Architect: Hans Kahn Associates
Start Date: June 2002
Completion Date: August 2003
The 19,257-sq-ft addition includes eight service bays, office space, warehouse, dispatch, garage, classrooms, remodeled tool room, fluid room and the addition of a welding room. The project also involves of 60,000 sq ft of concrete paving for additional bus parking.
