Judges Bios

Mark Bowers, AIA, 42, is the founder and principal of Architectural Workshop LLC in Denver. Only five years old, this young company specializes in commercial projects ranging from education facilities to banks. Founded on a desire to provide a higher level of design, Architectural Workshop is currently working on First Commercial Financial in Cherry Creek and the Arts and Media Department on the eighth floor of the Lawrence Building at the University of Colorado at Denver.

Connie Burton, 49, is a senior associate with the Denver interior design firm Gallun Snow. The firm's specialties include health care, recreation and government design. Recent projects include Exempla St. Joseph Hospital, the Aspen Valley Hospital and Cheyenne River Elderly Housing. Burton has been with Gallun Snow for the past six years. She is also a member of the American Society of Interior Designers and Colorado Real Estate Women.

Steve Foote, 36, is the division manager of Loveland-based Greiner Electric LLC. Greiner has recently finished the Beauvallon and is working on Block Two of Belmar and the Stevenson Toyota on west Alameda. Foote has been with the company since its inception in 1997. He is also the current chair of the Construction Industry Training Council of Colorado and is involved with ABC and AGC.

Doug Grogan, 41, is the Front Range division manager for Denver's Shaw Construction. For over three years, Grogan has helped develop Shaw's specialties in mountain resorts, multifamily housing, aviation, tenant improvement and hospitality projects. Recent work includes the new private suites at CU's Folsom Field and the uptown Broadway mixed-use development in Boulder. Grogan is also a past member of the Council of Educational Facilities Planners.

Narender Kumar, PE, 57, is president of Kumar & Associates Inc., which is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. Founded by Kumar in 1989, K & A specializes in geotechnical and environmental engineering. Recent projects include The Children's Hospital at Fitzsimons and the Isle of Capri casino in Black Hawk. Kumar was a past president of ACEC Colorado and a member of the Colorado Association of Geotechnical Engineers.

Dave Sandlin, 46, is Mortenson Co. of Denver's senior project manager for the Denver Art Museum expansion. Sandlin joined the Mortenson team more than a year ago to begin construction on the highly technical project. He is involved in the Associated General Contractors of Colorado and volunteers with the Junior Achievement League.
